Happy Fall, Y'all!!!!

For the last several weeks, we have been talking about fall and participating in numerous fall-themed activities. We took pictures on TCE's front porch next to the beautiful hay and scarecrows, we created our own silly pumpkins and wrote about how we decorated our pumpkins, we created our very own storybook character out of a pumpkin, and much more! Please check out the Smilebox below to learn more about our exciting experiences.

Fall Festival!!!

Friday was TCE's Fall Festival. Mrs. Spurlin dressed up as a scarecrow and took pictures with boys and girls in front of the school, so I didn't get a chance to take many pictures with my camera. We saw so many friends and everyone had a great time! If you visited our Fall Festival, please comment below and let us know what activity you and your child enjoyed the most.

Fall Fun!

We have jumped into fall and we are having a great time! Last week we created fall trees and counted how many of each color leaves we had. We read a story about owls, created our own hand print owl, and composed a narrative about our owl. We have been working with fall manipulatives in math, and found some neat fall math/language games on the computer! On Friday, we opened our painting center and had a great time painting a fall picture! We have a lot more fall activities planned, we can't wait to share them with you!

Soccer Superstars!

This year we have some outstanding athletes - I am so proud! One evening, I had the opportunity to watch Shyne, Grace, and Erin play soccer. Both teams did a great job!

We Miss You, Harmonie!!!

One of our classmates recently moved to California. Many of the students ask about her daily; she is certainly missed! Harmonie, we hope you are still checking our blog and will let us know how California is! We would love to see pictures of California (like your new house, school, where you like to visit) - please email them to Mrs. Spurlin!

We miss Harmonie - THIS much!

All About Apples!

Yesterday was Johnny Appleseed's birthday! We spent the day learning that so much about Johnny Appleseed and apples! We learned that Johnny Appleseed's real name was John Chapman. We also learned the stories are based on a true person; however. the details have been exaggerated as the stories have been passed down (a genre we call a Tall Tale). In math, we created ten-frame hats similar to the hat Johnny was said to have worn, and in science we explored apples with our five senses! We explored the parts of an apple (e.g. core, flesh, stem, skin) and compared/contrasted the tastes of red, yellow, and green apples. We graphed our favorite tasting apple and composed a writing piece. It was definitely a busy, fun-filled day! :) Please click on the Smilebox to see more of our apple adventure!

Shadows!

Our current unit in reading is all about shadows. We have learned that shadows are created using: 1) some form of light, 2) something to block the light, and 3) a surface for the shadow to land on (like the ground or a wall). We've also learned that when the sun is low (dawn/dusk) our shadows look long and skinny, and when the sun is high (noon) our shadows look short and round. On Thursday, we took pictures of ourselves with our shadows. Let us know what you think! :)

A special guest...

On Wednesday, our class had a very special visitor - a third grade guest reader! Richard's sister, Mallory, visited our classroom and read Silly Sally, a book full of fun rhymes. We loved her story so much, we asked her to read it to us again! Thank you for reading to our class, Mallory! We hope you'll visit again soon!
